Codex CLI 0.167.0 marks unread results in the agent command center
In version 0.167.0, OpenAI’s Codex CLI marks unread results in the agent command center and the session picker. Users can also switch between connected backends in the terminal session picker without losing an unfinished draft.
OpenAI released version 0.167.0 of the Codex command-line tool, or CLI, on GitHub on 6 November. Codex is OpenAI’s coding agent. The main changes concern managing multiple agents and sessions in the terminal.
The agent command center shows agents’ tasks. The changelog says tasks are grouped by status, with the most recent first in each group. The subagent picker moves subagents awaiting the user’s approval to the top.
Users can open the command center with codex agents --no-daemon, which runs without a separate background service process, or daemon. The command center now also works in embedded sessions (embedded mode), the changelog says.
Both the command center and the session picker mark unread results. The session picker marks a session as read once the user has opened its transcript.
The session picker also lets users switch between connected backends without losing an unfinished draft. The release notes do not say which backends this covers.
One fix concerns switching model providers: saved chats now remain visible after the switch. If a chat cannot be resumed, users can read its transcript and build an editable prompt from it for a new chat.
When an agent asks for network access, the approval prompt shown to the user now closes when the request ends. If several requests to the same endpoint arrive at once, the user is asked about them one at a time.
Signing in with an API key or through a cloud provider is now under the ‘Sign in another way’ menu. The gcp_setup_wizard setting turns on guided setup for Google Cloud Vertex AI. Users can enable macOS and Windows system proxy settings experimentally from the /experimental menu. Other changes concern the Ctrl+L shortcut, among others.
Prebuilt installers for macOS, Windows and Linux, among others, are on the GitHub release page.
