Meta is rolling out models in Muse and Meta AI that it trained using its frontier model Muse Wonder. In the company’s own tests, the new models forget less and cope better with unexpected obstacles.

Meta announced the update on 6 November on its research blog and X account. The new models are not Muse Wonder itself. Meta introduced Muse Wonder a few weeks earlier and calls it its most capable model series. Meta is now rolling out specialised versions of its existing models, which it trained using Muse Wonder.

In Muse, an AI agent handles tasks on the user’s behalf. Meta AI is the company’s conversational AI assistant.

Memory and persistence

The models gain two capabilities that Meta introduced with Muse Wonder. Active Memory helps a model recognise when information shared in earlier conversations becomes relevant again. It also distinguishes temporary information from permanent, and current information from outdated.

Active Focus helps a model keep working towards a goal when it hits an unexpected obstacle. Meta says it trained the models on realistic obstacles so that they would try harder, recover or find an alternative.

The figures are Meta’s own

Meta compares the new Muse model with the previous one in its own tests. In the Active Memory test, the new model used crucial background information correctly in 90 per cent of tasks, against 76 per cent for the previous model. Meta says the new model forgets critical information 2.4 times less often. By calculation, the share of tasks in which the model failed to use background information correctly fell from 24 per cent to 10 per cent.

In the comparison Meta published, the Personal Superintelligence Index score rose from 38 per cent to 47 per cent. Meta also says that in Muse the new models perform 67 per cent better on everyday tasks where unexpected problems arise. The company does not give the baseline.

The figures have not been independently verified. The Verge reported on the new capabilities based on Meta’s announcement, but without the figures.

In Meta AI, Meta says, the same improvements mean that the assistant breaks complex problems into steps, asks more specific follow-up questions and keeps up when the user changes direction. The company gives no figures for these claims.

Muse also gets spaces

On the same day, Meta added spaces to Muse. The user describes an idea, and Muse builds an app-like view from it, such as a gift tracker or a travel plan. The views update in the background if the user connects other services to Muse. The Verge gives Gmail, Google Calendar and Notion as examples. Users can pin the views to the sidebar or main tabs and schedule them to appear at set times. TechCrunch’s Lucas Ropek wrote that they are in effect conversations separated by topic.

Meta says spaces are available everywhere Muse is. The company is still working out how users could share views with others. Meta says it will roll out the new models to Muse and Meta AI users gradually.
