Moonshot AI’s Kimi Hosted Agents runs companies’ AI agents in Moonshot’s cloud, so businesses do not have to build their own runtime environment. The service is billed by usage, and some security features are available only to verified enterprise customers.

China’s Moonshot AI said on 5 November that it had released Kimi Hosted Agents, a service in which Moonshot maintains the runtime environment for companies’ AI agents in its own cloud. The environment runs around the clock and supports long-running tasks and collaboration between multiple agents, the company said.

The service provides a harness: the program that controls an agent, gives the model its tools and runs its steps. Moonshot said companies usually spend months building their own harness, which includes a code execution environment, session management, tool calls, permissions and resuming interrupted tasks.

What the platform handles

Kimi’s documentation says the platform stores the full session history and runs built-in tools in an isolated cloud sandbox. A company’s own tools still run in the customer’s own program. The company promises that the platform handles retries and resumes a task automatically if the fault lies with the platform.

A Unite.AI article, written by AI and checked by its editors, describes how agents share work. A coordinating agent can delegate subtasks to up to 20 agents in the same session, the article said. The agents working on subtasks cannot delegate further or communicate directly with each other.

More than 140 skills, or functions packaged for agents, and more than 30 plugins come ready-made. They cover areas such as web search, data lookups and office documents. Companies can connect their own tools and MCP servers. The documentation lists 12 ready-made agent templates: the eight finance templates highlighted in the announcement, two gaming templates, and templates for investigating IT incidents and managing Discord communities.

Security and customers’ own machines

Users can restrict an agent’s network access, pause a session and export run logs for auditing. With an add-on component, Kimi Inference Hook, a company’s own or third-party security service checks task inputs and the content returned by tools before every model call. The customer sets the rules. The hook is available only to customers verified as businesses and must be requested from the sales team.

A self-hosted environment is also limited to verified businesses. In it, sandbox tools run on the customer’s machine, while model calls, agent orchestration and sessions stay on Kimi’s platform. Unite.AI reported that Kimi stresses this is not a private deployment: tool inputs and results still pass through the platform’s model API. This version does not support IPython, for example, and web search still runs on the platform as a paid feature, the publication said.

Price and availability

According to the documentation, pricing is made up of model tokens, sandbox runtime and plugin calls. Pandaily, citing IT Home, reported that the sandbox costs 0.072 yuan per hour. Unite.AI uses the same figure. Tech in Asia said the documentation it reviewed did not confirm prices.

Customers use the service on Kimi’s developer platform (platform.kimi.com) through a web console, the API or the kha CLI. Unite.AI reported that the beta opened to verified Chinese businesses in September. The documentation still labels the service as beta.
