Mistral adds managed agents and apps to Studio, with an option to run them on-premises
Mistral has added managed AI agents and apps to its Studio platform, along with new workflow features. The company said the models and platform can run in Mistral’s cloud, in a company’s own cloud or on its own servers.
Mistral AI said on 5 November that it is expanding Mistral Studio, its platform for building AI agents, workflows and apps that use a company’s own data and systems.
The announcement came alongside Mistral Large 4, a model the company nicknames Le Chonk. Mistral said the model is strong at coding, defensive cybersecurity and handling complex documents.
Agents, workflows and apps
An AI agent is a program that works through a model. With managed agents, Studio takes care of the runtime environment. The developer decides what the agent can do and limits its access to tools, data and actions. The agent can run code in a sandbox and delegate parts of a task to subagents. Developers can also give it skills, which are instructions that capture the team’s procedures. Hooks let developers add custom logic at specific points in execution.
Mistral’s own agent for investigating production incidents follows the team’s procedure, asks for approval before sensitive actions and posts its findings in Slack. The company said it saves hundreds of working hours a month.
In a workflow, some steps follow fixed rules, others rely on an agent’s reasoning and others on a human decision. An interrupted run resumes where it stopped. New additions include workflows triggered by events in enterprise systems and a graphical view of workflow logic. Mistral said its feedback-sorting workflow saves the product team about 35 hours a week.
For apps, Studio provides hosting, authentication, access management and pre-approved components, which reduce the amount of new code that needs a security review. Through a new MCP server, developers can build with Mistral Vibe or another coding agent, test the result on their own machine and deploy it to Studio with a single command.
OpenTelemetry traces let teams follow agent runs step by step, including model calls, tool calls and approvals. Before deployment, companies can test changes to prompts, models and tools on their own datasets.
Running in your own environment
Mistral said both the models and the platform can be deployed in a company’s own cloud, in a private cloud (VPC) or on-premises. Mistral-hosted deployments or a combination are also options. This allows sensitive data to stay in the company’s own environment.
In Mistral’s announcement, Su Yang, head of AI and IT innovation at BNP Paribas, said the bank runs Studio on its own infrastructure: ‘The AI systems we build run some of our most sensitive processes.’ ABANCA and CMA CGM are among the other companies using Studio in production, Mistral said.
Guides and example projects are available in Mistral’s documentation. The announcement gives no prices. For large deployments, the company asks customers to contact sales.
